Bring Your Bible to School Day!

Can my kids really bring their Bible to school? Yes! And they should.

Thursday, October 3rd, is Bring Your Bible to School Day. This nationwide event is put on every year by our national partner Focus on the Family. We’re joining them to promote this event because it is important that our children and youth understand their constitutional rights and can put them into practice.

We often take for granted that we live in a nation where we can freely live out our faith. Here in Massachusetts, however, we’ve seen religious freedom under attack in schools. This year already we’ve heard from multiple students who faced discrimination after they tried to start Bible clubs at their school. MFI worked with these courageous young people to educate their administrators about the constitutional rights of students, and now the Bible clubs are up and running. Click here to learn about one student’s story.

When schools attempt to limit children’s rights, it often comes from a lack of understanding by administrators, teachers, coaches, and even the students themselves about how the law works. The “separation of church and state” is often cited to defend this violation of students’ rights. However, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that students don’t lose their constitutional rights when they go to school.

By bringing their Bibles to school tomorrow, your children are both exercising their 1st Amendment right to share the good news of God’s word and also educating their peers and administrators that these rights don’t end when they come to school. We hope you take this opportunity to discuss with your children what it means to have these freedoms and why they should bring their Bibles to school tomorrow!

Make sure you take a picture of your child bringing his or her Bible to school, and send it our way!
