MA Teachers Association Hosts Drag Queen at LGBTQ Summit for Teachers

For years, we’ve been telling you about the outrageous content that often makes its way into public school classrooms. From guides for minors on participating in sexual activity to LGBTQ storybooks, there’s no shortage of material in the classroom that parents should be wary of.

However, gender ideology in Massachusetts schools isn’t popping up out of nowhere – it’s coming from the top down, and the Commonwealth is going full steam ahead to promote it.

We recently learned that the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA, the state-wide teachers union) hosted an LGBTQ+ Summit in Worcester, Massachusetts.

While MA students are struggling with proficiency in basic subjects like reading and math, this “summit” didn’t prepare teachers to address any of those critical needs. Rather, it was a day focused on LGBTQ ideology, presenting topics such as “Creating and Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth Clubs and GSA’s in Your School,” “Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth in Today’s School Climate,” and an “LGBTQ+ Member Focus Group and Listening Session.”

With titles like these, it’s clear that this summit had one agenda – to promote controversial views on sexuality and gender, and to teach educators how to insert those views into their classrooms.

To make matters worse, the MTA included an adult performance starring drag queen Mz. Clementine Kulayd. The inclusion of a drag queen performance in an MTA professional event speaks volumes about not only the organization’s priorities, but what it feels is appropriate behavior for educators. This should appall families everywhere.

This is not the first time we’ve found a drag queen performing in a MA public school. We’ve told you before about Sutton and Newton, where we uncovered drag queens performing for students. And while at this time it appears the drag queen performance at the MTA LGBTQ+ Summit was only attended by adults, sexual performers have no place in the public school, regardless of the audience.

This drag queen was not the only gender-ideology driven participant at the summit. The list of speakers featured several individuals from DESE’s Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students, one of the biggest drivers of gender ideology and indoctrination into diverse sexualities in MA public schools.

The event is clearly intended to encourage teachers to increase pro-LGBTQ messaging in the classroom. Given the “inclusive curriculum materials” the Safe Schools program offers to “provide for LGBTQ+ inclusive lessons,” we suspect that their version of “inclusion” only goes one way. We doubt that instructors were encouraged to make sure students who hold traditional beliefs about gender and sexuality feel welcome in school as well.

Teachers and administrators must reject the idea that public schools exist to provide an environment where biased, controversial ideology can be promoted. Rather, educators must remain focused on enhancing academic achievement and protecting students from unnecessary distractions that dilute their studies. And parents, you must hold your school districts to this standard.

When schools are not held accountable, they will continue down this harmful path – and we are already seeing this happen, as this spring’s MTA LGBTQ+ Summit was not an isolated incident. Our investigation has also uncovered that the MTA has set its sights on a full LGBTQ+ conference this coming fall.

There may still be time to make an impact before the fall conference. Speak up against radical gender ideology in your school district, spread the word about its harm to other families in your community, and opt your children out of sex-ed. Taking action today sends a message to the MTA that parents want an unbiased, common-sense school experience for their children – not indoctrination.

However, teachers unions promoting LGBTQ ideology is not something that’s only happening in Massachusetts. In fact, the national partner of the MTA, the National Education Association (NEA) hosted an “Advancing LGBTQ+ Justice and Transgender Advocacy” training for educators this past December. This event was designed to equip participants with the “level of confidence, knowledge, methods, and resources allowing them to lead a campaign cycle focused on LGBTQ+ Justice.”

Description of the “Advancing LGBTQ+ Justice and Transgender Advocacy” training from the NEA website.

The training materials at the NEA conference featured PowerPoints discussing transgender terminology, gender theory, and plans for staff undergoing a “gender transition.” You can read more about the event’s content in this article from Defending Education here.

If this is what is occurring at the national level, then it’s no surprise that Massachusetts is following suit. Through choosing to host its LGBTQ summit, the MTA is signing off on the radical gender agenda being endorsed by the NEA and plaguing schools across the Commonwealth.

If this is what your children’s teachers are being taught to promote, what will they be teaching your children?  We encourage you to ask your school district about their social studies and sex-ed lessons regularly. Because we know that schools are full steam ahead, asking the right questions and advocating for common sense in the classroom is critical. Though this is a widespread issue, change is possible – and it starts with you.

Take Action Today

You make this work possible. Through your support, parents receive the critical information they need to navigate these issues with confidence. Would you consider continuing that impact with a generous gift today?

There are many ways you can step in and make a meaningful impact. Here are a few ways to get involved and continue the work.

  • Parents, stay informed about your children’s education. View our sex ed map to see what we already know about your district’s curriculum. And then, opt your child out. Additionally, join our Massachusetts Informed Parents Facebook group and subscribe to the MIP Substack today to join likeminded parents and families in the fight and receive important updates on parental rights.
  • Teachers, you have options, too. We know that many Christians who teach in MA public schools may not feel represented by the MTA because of its focus on gender and sexuality. Thanks to the Janus decision, these teachers cannot be required to pay union dues – funds that often go to promote ideology that violates their beliefs. To learn more about teacher’s rights to opt out of the union, click here
  • Community members, if you feel called to take a stand for truth in the Commonwealth by running for local office or school committee, MFI’s initiative, Massachusetts Family Action (MFA), has the resources you need. MFA trains, equips, and supports citizens who are ready to step up and serve their communities. Visit the MFA website today.

At MFI, our goal is to serve as a trusted resource for you in any way we can. Children are a gift from God, and we take seriously the responsibility to help protect and guide them amid the many messages they encounter today. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. We are here to support you.
