MA House Unanimously Approves Parentage Act Commodifying Babies

The MA legislature voted unanimously to approve HB4672 “An Act to Ensure Legal Parentage Equality,” a bill that would enshrine “intent-based parenting” in Massachusetts law, making it much easier for parents with no biological connection to a child to acquire that child through surrogacy or sperm or egg donation. These methods can have devastating consequences for children who are intentionally separated from their mother, father, or both.

If this legislation is passed in the Senate and signed into law by the governor, it would:

  • Turn children into a commodity that can be bought and sold.
  • Deprive children of their right to know their biological mother and/or father.
  • Hurt fathers and mothers

Read our recent action alert to learn more about this harmful bill. And read this informative article written by Them Before Us that goes into further detail about how this bill will legalize baby-selling.

SB947 the Senate version of this bill is expected to be brought for a vote. We will update you when that happens. In the meantime, please contact your senators and tell them to VOTE NO on the Parentage Act.
