As you know, MFI’s Massachusetts Liberty Legal Center (MLLC) – along with our partners at Alliance Defending Freedom and First & Fourteenth PLLC – filed a lawsuit last month against the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF) on behalf of two Christian foster families.
Now, the Trump Administration is warning DCF that they, too, have taken notice of these discriminatory policies.
DCF is denying these foster families the ability to continue providing foster children with safe, loving homes, simply because their Christian convictions would not allow them to sign DCF’s new agreement that stated that they would automatically “affirm” the gender identity or sexual orientation of any child in their care.
The Department made clear that families would be required to use opposite-sex pronouns for children, support their desire to dress as the opposite sex, and even encourage their medical transition through the use of cross-sex hormones or surgery. These foster families could not sign off on this agreement in good conscience, as it directly contradicts their firmly held beliefs.
MLLC’s Sam Whiting stated, “We are encouraged that the federal government has put Massachusetts on notice that it is investigating DCF’s discriminatory policy. The policy both harms Christian foster families and strips loving homes away from foster children. If DCF does not change course, they will face opposition not only from us, but from the federal administration as well.”

We are optimistic about this federal warning and pray that it causes DCF to revisit their discriminatory policies.
