World Down Syndrome Day: A Call to Protect the Most Vulnerable

March 21st marks World Down Syndrome Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the lives, abilities, and potential of individuals with Down syndrome. People with Down syndrome are truly special, bringing unique joy, warmth, and perspective to the world with their infectious smiles, unwavering kindness, and boundless promise. But as we celebrate the beauty of these lives, we also face a harsh reality—one that is both heartbreaking and deeply dystopian.

Across the globe, unborn babies with Down syndrome are being killed at an alarming rate. Advances in prenatal testing have paved the way for selective abortions. A study examining abortions in the United States revealed that an average of 67% of pregnant women who received a Down syndrome diagnosis chose to end the life of their unborn child. In other countries, this rate is even higher. For instance, 90% of babies diagnosed with the syndrome in England and 100% in Iceland are killed by an abortionist. These staggering numbers reflect a culture that has forgotten the inherent value of all human life, regardless of the challenges it may face.

Every life deserves the chance to be born. The decision to end the life of a baby simply because they have Down syndrome is not only morally wrong but incredibly dark. It represents a world where some lives are considered more valuable than others and discarded because they don’t fit the mold of what society deems “perfect.”

People with Down syndrome bring something unique and irreplaceable to the world. They challenge us to rethink our assumptions about ability, value, and what it means to be human. Many individuals with Down syndrome grow up to lead fulfilling, happy lives. They contribute to their families, communities, and workplaces. And they teach us about unconditional love, patience, and resilience. But most importantly, they remind us that every person, no matter their genetic makeup, has immeasurable worth.

Every child, no matter their diagnosis, should be welcomed, loved, and allowed to live. As we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, MFI not only honors the lives of those who have been born with Down syndrome but also affirms our commitment to speak out to protect the lives of the unborn.

Please consider making a donation today to support MFI’s pro-life advocacy efforts as we work to protect the sanctity of life and promote a culture that values every human being.
