Sutton High’s Drag Queen Performance: MFI’s Findings Unveiled

It was the skirt ruffle heard round the world.

Back in the spring we told you about how a drag queen named Diva D ended up dancing on a table in the Sutton High School Library Media Center. The dance happened during an intro-to-drag-and-pride seminar for public school students, part of Sutton’s Connections Conference, or “ConCon.” The bizarrely outrageous photos of a grown man in a tiny pink miniskirt went viral, the world took notice, and Sutton parents demanded answers.

What happened next would serve as a model for what is possible when community members, armed with accurate information, solid strategy, and a healthy dose of enough-is-enough, come together to make change. By the time summer 2024 was over, the Sutton superintendent resigned, a ConCon-defending school committee member was ousted, a positive-reform-minded candidate was elected, and it was announced that Sutton would not host ConCon in 2025. And that’s only what happened before the new school year started!

While the good people of Sutton were working hard to make a difference in their own town, we were working too. MFI filed several public records requests with the Sutton Public Schools seeking information on which Massachusetts schools participated in ConCon, the permission slips required, which staff members were aware of the drag queen’s involvement (and when they were informed), who financed ConCon, and other related details. It took several months to get back some of the information, but now we are ready to share what we learned.

So much has happened in Sutton. We secured such a volume of new information, that we had to publish it in two parts. To read part 1, including links and supporting documents, click the button below to read the report on the Massachusetts Informed Parents Substack site. You don’t want to miss what we uncovered!

Remember to subscribe to the MIP Substack so that when part 2 is released, you’ll be among the first to receive it!

Woke ideology hasn’t been completely removed from the Sutton Public Schools yet, but significant progress has been made. We will continue to support change-minded Suttoners as they push their district back into the land of commonsense (and put an end to drag queens in school!). We will also continue to keep you informed about what is happening in Sutton, because if a drag queen can dance for minors in quiet little Sutton, a drag queen performing for minors can happen anywhere. But if average Janes and Joes in quiet little Sutton can organize and push back against the powerful sexualized agenda that pervades our state and nation, and truly make a difference? That can happen anywhere, too. And that’s truly something to celebrate.

Did you know? MFI does not charge for legal services, educational resources, or any other support that we offer. We are able to equip local citizens to make a difference in their own communities, thanks to the generosity of people like you. Will you partner with us today through a one-time or recurring financial gift? Your donation will help us continue our work in Sutton, and across MA.
