The MA legislature has once again passed a $1 million smear campaign against charitable Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs).
PRCs are charitable organizations that seek to help pregnant and parenting women in difficult situations. They not only offer options counseling and needed baby supplies to support women in need, but many of them also provide medical services ranging from pregnancy tests and diagnostic ultrasounds to STI testing and treatment.

Subject line: Please veto the $1 million dollar smear campaign against pregnancy resource centers
Dear Governor Healey,
I am writing to ask that you please veto the portion of budget line item 4513-1006 of HB58, the Supplemental Budget Bill, the legislature sent to you on March 23rd. The bulk of the $1,250,000 will be spent to smear pregnancy resource centers by claiming that they do not provide medical services.
The specific language to strike is as follows:
“provided, that not less than $1,000,000 shall be expended for a public awareness campaign to educate providers and the public about crisis pregnancy centers and pregnancy resource centers and the centers’ lack of medical services; provided further, that the campaign shall include information on the availability of providers across the commonwealth that provide legitimate medical and family planning services; provided further, that the campaign shall be linguistically diverse and culturally competent;”
The truth is that pregnancy resource centers are charitable organizations that seek to help pregnant and parenting women in difficult situations. Many of them do, in fact, provide medical services ranging from pregnancy tests and diagnostic ultrasounds to STI testing and treatment. While they don’t provide abortions, they don’t hide that fact. These are organizations that provide free medical care and donated baby clothes, diapers, car seats, and other items to women in need. They act out of love and compassion. Elected officials should not use taxpayer money to vilify pregnancy resource centers.
Please veto from line item 4513-1006 this $1 million smear campaign against pregnancy resource centers.
Sincerely,
