Monday marked the two-year anniversary of the SCOTUS decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that legalized abortion nationwide. This historic ruling returned the regulation of abortion to individual states, allowing them to enact their own laws and regulations regarding abortion. However, while 14 states enacted near total bans and many more partial bans following the momentous Dobbs ruling, sadly, Massachusetts has doubled down on its radical commitment to not only keep abortion legal but to also expand it.
Just this week Governor Healey issued an executive order requiring all Massachusetts hospital emergency rooms to perform abortions when necessary to eliminate risk to a pregnant woman’s life or health. This comes as the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to send the EMTALA abortion case back down to the lower courts and declined to rule either way on the issues involved. This case is about the Biden administration’s misinterpretation of a federal statute to try to force hospitals in pro-life states like Idaho to provide abortions in emergency situations.
The truth of the matter is that induced abortions are never medically necessary. But pro-abortion activists like to use the “life and health of the mother” argument to muddy the waters and create a false equivalence between abortion and life-saving medical care for mothers in emergency situations. Governor Healey is using this same tactic. Her executive order will make little practical difference here in Massachusetts but represents another political ploy to appeal to pro-abortion extremists at the expense of the unborn.
In fact, the Governor’s allegiance to the abortion lobby is so profound that her administration just launched a $1 million malicious smear campaign attacking charitable pregnancy resource centers that help women and children in need. Ever since the overturning of Roe v. Wade two years ago, PRCs have been under constant attack on state and municipal levels in Massachusetts, and for one reason only – they do not offer abortion.
The Governor may continue her attacks on women’s choice and on the lives of the unborn in the Commonwealth, but MFI will remain resolute, speaking out to protect vulnerable mothers and their babies. We stand ready to defend PRCs from Healey’s abominable efforts to defame their benevolent work. So, on this second anniversary of a major win for the pro-life movement, won’t you join us in our continued fight to promote the sanctity of life in the Bay State with a generous donation today?
