Who Came Up With The Term “Gender Identity” Anyway?

I really do hope you’ll join our virtual Book Club on March 22nd with Ryan T. Anderson, author of When Harry Became Sally.  I’m reading through it now and in just the first chapter there is so much clarity about what transgenderism is and where this movement came from.  I can’t encourage you enough to get the book and read it.  But I did want to share one of the most fascinating points I came across.  Anderson explains how the now ubiquitous term “gender identity” was introduced by a man named John Money in the 1960s.  Money was a professor of medical psychology at Johns Hopkins, but also a man who sexually exploited the children under his care and, apparently, took pictures.  And yet, 60 years later, Money’s bizarre theories are treated as scientific fact and vigorously enforced in our laws and culture.

That’s why it’s so important to read this book.  The next time the topic of transgenderism or gender identity comes up, simply ask the question “Who first used the term ‘gender identity’?” and see what answer is given.  Suggest googling the name “Dr. John Money.”  For the reasonable people in your life who are nevertheless inclined to just go along with the gender identity movement, it might just make them pause and think.

Come and think with us and the author of When Harry Became Sally in two weeks.  We have a lot to learn!
