A Pot Shop Next to Every Dunkin Donuts in MA?

On Monday, MFI staff attended a strategy session hosted by the Massachusetts Prevention Alliance (MAPA) [link] in Shrewsbury to work on plans for educating the public about the dangers of pending ‘medical’ marijuana legislation.  Activists from around the country were in attendance, sharing war stories about their struggles in other states. One speaker from California put it succinctly: “Medical marijuana is actually drug dealers hiding behind sick people to sell illegal drugs to perfectly healthy people.”
In California, there now are more ‘medical’ marijuana shops than Starbucks! A revealing video of marijuana ‘dispensaries’ in California was shown, with highlights of chocolate peanut butter ‘medicinal’ brownies and a bong attached to a gasmask as ‘medical equipment’.
We were impressed and encouraged by the level of organization and commitment demonstrated by MAPA in putting this conference together, and we look forward to continuing to work with them in helping to keep harmful drugs out of our communities by stopping the creation of ‘medical’ marijuana shops in Massachusetts.
