Preserving life, from conception to natural death

Friends of the Family,

This month, the ongoing work by pro-lifers around the nation gets special attention as the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. takes place. At the same time, the topic of abortion and Roe v. Wade has been a debate subject between the candidates vying for the opportunity to challenge President Obama this November.

Locally here in Massachusetts, the annual Assembly for Life at Faneuil Hall in Boston will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2 PM to 4 PM. Sponsored by Massachusetts Citizens for Life (MCFL), this year’s keynote speaker is Wayne Cockfield, a nationally known retired Marine Vietnam War veteran, who lost both legs and partial use of his hands in combat. He will be speaking about the dangers of this November’s state ballot question for the legalization of doctor-prescribed suicide.

This is a very important year in the fight for life from the moment of conception until natural death. Nationally, there will be a choice between a President who has consistently and forcefully supported the pro-abortion agenda, and most likely a challenger who embraces the sanctity of life.

While the work is ongoing at the State House to approve “Laura’s Law” and oppose the radical sex-ed agenda in the mandatory Health Curriculum Frameworks, our attention and resources will be directed towards putting forth the truth about doctor-prescribed suicide – more graphically called “doctor prescribed death.” With billionaire George Soros and other national liberal interests pledging financial support of the state ballot initiative, we have our work cut out for us.

MFI will be working closely with MCFL and the ballot question committee established to directly fight this onerous ballot question. While state election law prevents us from raising and spending money to defeat a ballot question, we can and we will educate legislators and the public on the dangerous and life-ending policy of doctor-prescribed death.

We reported last week on the successes that Operation Rescue of Massachusetts has had in the last year in saving and protecting preborn children. That is great news, and news that hopefully will only get better in 2012. But we cannot limit our efforts to protecting just those at the beginning life and neglect our commitment to those approaching the end. All of the vulnerable in our society need our support.
